Vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among U.S. teenagers, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A program at Penn Manor High School, sponsored by State Farm Insurance, seeks to change that sobering statistic.
“Celebrate My Drive” encourages safe driving habits by lauding teenagers who are making good choices behind the wheel and encouraging those who aren’t to change their habits.
Every day starting Monday, Oct. 21, students will watch a different message on safe driving attitudes during Block 2. After the announcements, students will be encouraged to use their personal technology devices to make a commitment to drive safely at www.celebratemydrive.com. School staff members also are urged to make their own safe driving commitments. For students who don’t have a device, school laptops will be available at lunch.
Schools across the country are participating in “Celebrate My Drive,” and the school that makes the most safe driving commitments will receive a $100,000 grant and an in-school concert By Kelly Clarkson.
“Celebrate My Drive” is being held in conjunction with National Teen Driver Safety Week, Oct. 21 through 25.
